Old Man Online

I am an old, I am a man, and I am.... online.

The videos I have created are my attempt at topping up my pension fund, or maybe they aren’t; maybe they are just to keep an old man occupied on an evening.

I am an ex-surf shop owner, I am an ex-international kickboxer, and I am STILL a software engineer.

Being old takes a lot away from you, your speed, durability, flexibility and memory (I think!?).

In return, it gives you aches and pains and a whole lot of experience, and that is what this website and YouTube channel are about, sharing my experiences and trying to pass on a bit of my knowledge. The YouTube videos will be delivered slowly. I work full-time, and I am currently in the first year of a master's degree at Sheffield Hallam University, please be patient.

Surfing

Just a few photos until the videos are produced. The first image is of my quiver, it is quite an old photo, and my quiver has grown since then. I hope to purchase a new board very soon; remember, you can NEVER have enough boards, but you can have too few. The second image is of me surfing in Cornwall at the back end of 2023, and the last photo is of me and a dear friend, Arthur, surfing in Biarritz in 2004, when I wasn’t so old and wrinkled.

Kickboxing

I came to kickboxing quite late; I was in my mid-forties, and I just wish I had found it sooner. I have loved my whole journey; I am a bit of an odd one, as I like the syllabus, I enjoy fitness, I get a real buzz from sparring, and I love the physical side of kickboxing. I have been lucky enough to represent England on 3 occasions, and had it not been for COVID-19, I am sure I would have been more. The first image is of me and my friend Jim fighting at a club fight night (a massive shout out to Desapline Martial Arts), the second image is from an England training session before the 2019 world championships in Glasgow, and the third is me with the GOAT Ray Daniels, who I managed to train with a few years ago. If you ever get the chance, take it! He is one of the nicest men you could ever meet.

Software Engineering

I have worked in IT since finishing college, which was around 35 years ago. I have seen so many changes in this industry, and these changes mean that you, too, must continually change and adapt. Now, I manage a small development team. We use Oracle PL/SQL and APEX, but as part of my degree course, I have covered the MERN stack and some of the AWS.
